How we count
CardGarden has no accounts — there is no sign-up and no login — so every statistic on this site is a traffic statistic, counted in the open. These are the exact definitions behind the numbers in the “Visitors online now” widget and the statistics strip. If a number on this site ever disagrees with these definitions, the definitions win and the number is a bug.

Visitor online now
A browser that loaded a page in the last 5 minutes. This is the only “online” figure we publish, and the window is the same everywhere it appears — sidebar widget, statistics strip and mobile live bar.
Visit
One session: a sequence of page views from the same browser, grouped until 30 minutes of inactivity. A new visit starts after that gap.
Page view
One page load. A visit normally contains several page views, so the two numbers are never interchangeable — we always label which one a figure is.
Peak visitors online
The highest “visitors online now” value recorded, always shown with the date and time it occurred. If it is beaten, the new value and its date replace it.
Bots & crawlers
Excluded from every visitor number on this site. Search-engine crawlers, uptime monitors and scrapers are filtered out before counting and are never added into a visitor total.
Method, in plain terms
- Aggregate only. We publish counts per page and per category (“24 visitors are viewing Forums — English”). We never publish a per-visitor feed, IP addresses, or anything that could identify a visitor.
- Cookieless counting. Totals are kept as running counters, not as profiles of people. Nothing here follows you to another site.
- Arithmetic that closes. Any breakdown we show sums to its total, and the same figure is the same number in every widget at the same moment.
- Freshness is displayed. The live widget carries an “Updated HH:MM” line; “today” always means since 00:00 site time; peaks always carry their date.
- Directory counts are exact. The listings total is the real size of the catalogue and equals the sum of the category counts — you can page through any category and count the rows yourself.
